Terrazas de los Andes becomes Regenerative Organic Certified

Acclaimed Malbec producer Terrazas de los Andes has become the 10th winery in the world to be awarded Regenerative Organic Certified status.

Birnie-Scott

Founded by Frenchman Hervé Birnie-Scott, Terrazas de los Andes now owns more than 500 hectares of vineyards. Certified status has been given to 86ha, in Paraje Altamira, Eugenio Bustos and Los Chacayes, Mendoza.  The company has announced its intention to work towards gaining the accreditation for the remainder of its vineyards by 2026.

Regenerative Organic Certified status has been given to a select group of businesses that have committed to increasing organic soil matter over time, including clothing brand Patagonia. In the wine world, a number of producers are now in pursuit of certification – in March, Viña Emiliana became the first Chilean company to achieve it, and Chandon Argentina was also recently announced as a recipient, alongside Terrazas de los Andes.

Responding to the certification, Birnie-Scott said: “This recognition highlights our unwavering dedication to responsible farming practices and underscores our commitment to the well-being of the environment, our community, and future generations of wine lovers.”

Terrazas de los Andes was recognised during the 13th edition of the drinks business‘ Green Awards for its commitment to environmental sustainability. Birnie-Scott was also selected as the Green Personality of the Year, due to his efforts as a “guardian of mountain life”.

db interviewed Birnie-Scott last year about how he has gone to higher and higher altitudes in search of a fresher style of Malbec.
