Pushing the boundaries in British winemaking

Bevica, a leading business management solution specifically created for the drinks industry, has proudly co-sponsored the recent 2023 WineGB Awards Luncheon and Ceremony at Drapers Hall, London.

The WineGB Awards is the national competition for the English and Welsh wine industry. Organised and run by WineGB, the aim and purpose of the Awards is to “send out a positive message of the quality, consistency and variety of our wines”.

Record number of entries

This year’s competition saw a record number of entries, with 346 wines being entered into the competition. There were 48 gold, 145 silver and 120 bronze medals awarded. Included in the medal winners were several wine producers who are Bevica clients. The Awards Ceremony also saw trophies being awarded to a range of wineries and vineyards from across Great Britain. West Sussex’s Digby Fine English were crowned Supreme Champion, in addition winning trophies for Best Classic Cuvee Vintage and Top Sparkling for their 2013 Vintage Reserve Brut.

UK wine industry: a series contender in the world of wine

Two members of the Bevica team attended the Awards Ceremony: the Bevica sales director, Jon Bain and Bevica product director, Claudio Martell.

Speaking after the Awards Ceremony, Claudio commented: “One of our key takeaways from this year’s Awards was how white wine from the UK is clearly becoming a serious contender in the world of wine. It is widely acknowledged that the United Kingdom is as an outstanding region for the production of sparkling wines. What this year’s competition has clearly shown is that the UK is well on its way to being one of the best wine- producing regions in the world for still white wine as well.”

As a Silver Patron of WineGB and the Awards Ceremony co-sponsor, Bevica sponsored the Waitrose Trophy for the Best Rosé. Following the announcement of the winner, Jon commented: “It was my great honour to present the award for the Best Still Rosé to Tuffon Hall Vineyard for their Pinot Noir Rose’, Beatrice 2022. Congratulations to them and all the winners for their phenomenal achievements and this year’s Awards.”
