Elon Musk shows ‘red wine test’ on Tesla

Tesla has shared a video of spilt red wine on the all-white seats of one of its electric cars to prove the resilience of the material.

The video, which was originally uploaded by the branded Tesla twitter account, was re-shared by Elon Musk to his personal account, with the additional quote of ‘red wine test’.

An extra post from Tesla also stated that “most dirt can be wiped off with just warm water & a microfiber cloth” on the car seats.

Looking at the bottle, it appears that it is a Mooi Kaap Droë Rooi, a red wine from the Western Cape in South Africa. It is described as a “mild, friendly wine with ripe red fruit and a soft aftertaste” and to be paired with ‘easy dishes, with or without meat” or onto Tesla seats, it would appear.

It is not known whether the wine, which retails for less than €5, is from Musk’s personal cellar.

It isn’t known who the original poster of the video was, although if you slow the video down, it could be Musk himself who is doing the spilling and cleaning.

The video offered the potential for Twitter users to reply with their own mishaps, including one for potato soup, with user @Holger confirming there was ‘no issues’.

For others, it was an opportunity to state their intention to buy a Tesla due to the excellent cleaning performance, with user @nopeify stating, “Red wine spilling on my seat happens way too often when I drive. Getting one”.

Others pointed out the issue of mixing cars and alcohol, with user @ChrisCoffeeeth saying, “Officer: Sir did you just drink a bottle of wine? Driver: No, I was just testing the stain-resistant seats in my Tesla.”
