Can ‘2005 Ashes villain’ Ricky Ponting sell wine to the English?
Thanks to online retailer Ocado, the English can now find out for themselves what former Aussie captain Ricky Ponting’s wines are like.
Dubbed by the Sydney Morning Herald as the “2005 Ashes villain”, Ricky Ponting has launched his award-winning wine range in the UK, with a selection of two white and two red wines available on Ocado.com.
Ponting Wines is a collaboration between the cricketer and winemaker Ben Riggs, with wines made from fruit sourced in Ponting’s home state of Tasmania and premium vineyards in South Australia, where Riggs is located. The Ocado range features a Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Ocado Wine Buyer Robert Grimes, says: “I appreciate that cricket fans here may take some convincing before they sip a wine from the legendary Aussie skipper – particularly at the moment – but wine lovers who can look past the rivalry will be rewarded!”
Ricky Ponting, said: “I hope Ocado customers enjoy exploring the range and that – whatever happens on the pitch – there will be lots of opportunities to celebrate and raise a glass this summer.”
