One World Duty Free set to open its first store in Sri Lanka
Singapore-based retailer One World Duty Free (ODF) has teamed up with Port City Colombo to open Sri Lanka’s first downtown duty-free store.
The partnership, which will see ODF develop Port City Colombo into a global duty-free retail destination, is set to include wine and spirits being sold from Port City Duty Free Mall, marking ODF’s first move out of Singapore.
According to reports from Insider Retail, the construction of the ODF store is set to begin in the middle of this year, with the expectation it will be trading by the year’s end.
Colombo Port City Economic Commission director general Priyath B. Wickrama said: “In our partners at Port City Colombo, we recognise a level of ambition which is perfectly aligned with One World Duty Free’s game-changing approach to duty-free retail.”
ODF revealed that its plans for the Port City Colombo store will provide visitors with a shopping experience that is set to be enhanced by smart retail.
Speaking about the partnership, Wickrama added: “The opportunity to showcase our credentials on the world stage and contribute to the creation of a landmark destination in Asia is a key milestone in One World Duty Free’s journey of progressive expansion across Asia.”
