Most sustainable drinks company in Spain revealed
Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos has been named the food and drink company with the best sustainable practices in Spain through The Sustainability Awards, organized by Forbes and Credit Suisse.
Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos, one of the first wineries in Spain to gain Carbon Neutral certification and to use 100% renewable energy, has been championed as the most sustainable in Spain by The Sustainability Awards.
A pioneer in environmental best practices, the winery achieved carbon neutral status in 2022 from independent certifier DNV, thanks to the reduction and neutralisation of its emissions of greenhouse gases.
In his acceptance speech, CEO Gonzalo Entrecanales said that, “as a company that has sustainability in its DNA, our obligation is to maintain our commitment to quality, the environment, society, and good business practices, as well as raise consumer awareness about the importance of considering all these factors when purchasing any product.”
The independent jury that evaluated the Forbes – Credit Suisse Sustainability Awards was not only impressed by the attainments of Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos in the field to date, but also highly valued the group’s new Sustainability Plan, which will implement 100 actions in the areas of environment, social practices, and corporate governance between 2023 and 2027.
With wineries and vineyards across Spain in the Rioja, Ribera del Duero, Rueda and Valdeorras D.O.s, and more than 400 hectares of its own vineyards, Entrecanales Domecq e Hijos also launched the country’s first ‘by invitation only’ guesthouse with its Casa Cosme Palacio in Rioja Alavesa.
This is the second edition of the Forbes – Credit Suisse Sustainability Awards, which are open to companies based in Spain with an annual turnover of more than €50 million.
The Osborne Group was the winner of the first edition of the award for the food and drink sector in 2022.
