Western Cape

Held at Between the Bridges, close to London Waterloo station, the tasting will take place between 1030am and 6pm.

The event will showcase wines from more than 100 South African producers and is the first major trade tasting held by the organisation since 2017.

At ‘Encounter South Africa’, visitors will be able to taste wines from producers who are well-established in the UK market, new to the market and those seeking to enter for the first time.

In addition, there is also a ‘Tread Lightly’ tasting space, aimed at a focus on the six key themes around social and environmental responsibility, such as Organic; Biodynamic; Upliftment; Social Development; WWF Conservation Champions; Water Preservation; Drought Tolerant Grape Varieties; Fairtrade.

The Pebbles Project, a South African winelands-based charity that aims to enable children from agricultural communities to access quality education, health, nutrition and social work services, will be exhibiting in the space.

Wines of South Africa is also partnering with the Old Vine Project to deliver a seminar at the tasting, focusing on the significant role that old vines has played in shaping the image of premium South African wine, the desire to plant for the future of the industry and the impact on climate change in the short and long term.

The seminar is sponsored by Wesgro, the official tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape.

Commenting on the event, Jo Wehring, Wines of South Africa’s market manager for UK and Europe, said: “The South African wine industry is constantly evolving, making it one of the most innovative and dynamic in the world. We’re delighted to be able to host a large scale tasting in London again, following the Covid restrictions.

“The subject of sustainable wine production remains at the core of the South African wine industry’s philosophy and we welcome the opportunity to share progress in this multi-faceted area. Finally, we would like to thank our partner, Wesgro, for supporting this event.”
