Suntory named global leader in engaging suppliers on green issues
Suntory Holdings has been ranked in the top 8% of companies for engaging its suppliers and members, including China’s ASC Fine Wines, on the issue of sustainability.
Suntory Holdings has been crowned Supplier Engagement Leader 2022 and ranked in the top 8% of all companies assessed for supplier engagement on the issue of climate change by global non-profit CDP’s Supplier Engagement Leaderboard.
The honour bestowed on the company marks the third time that the Suntory Group, including its soft drinks subsidiary, Suntory Beverage & Food (SBF), has been recognised by the initiative, which seeks to evaluate and spur action on supply chain engagement concerning climate issues.
The assessment criteria covers governance, targets, value chain (scope 3) emissions, and value chain engagement strategies and factors in the company’s climate score.
ASC Fine Wines, a leading fine wine importer and distributor in China and a member company of Suntory, has reiterated its “unwavering commitment” to sustainable development in the wake of the recognition.
Through increasingly green operations ASC intends to support Suntory in achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its entire value chain by 2050.
“At ASC Fine Wines, we are committed to promoting sustainable development and environmental protection, in line with China’s broader sustainability goals, as one of our ways to give back to the Chinese society in which we build our business,” said Makoto Nagae, CEO of ASC.
“ASC’s corporate vision is ‘Be a lighthouse for the wine world’. I hope in the area of contributing to achieving China’s vision for a greener and more sustainable society, ASC will also shine a beam of light in our industry with every bit we do.”
One of ASC’s sustainable initiatives includes raising funds in its wine auctions for the Shanghai Charity Foundation to support sustainability projects in China. Additionally, ASC is actively sponsoring Suntory’s water education programmes in China to educate primary school pupils on water conservation.
ASC’s sustainability efforts also extend to supplier selection, among its 100+ exclusive winery supplier partners, 48 of them prioritising sustainable development.
More than 30 of ASC’s wine brands have received organic and biodynamic certifications in their respective countries of origin, and 10 others engage in sustainable viticulture practices.
