Morandé unveils new innovation winery
Morandé Wine Group has opened Adventura Winery in Pelequén, Cachapoal Valley, a new facility that will enable the group to push the boundaries of Chilean winemaking.
The new winery has been equipped with some of the latest technology to enable Morandé to experiment with every stage of the winemaking process, from the grape varieties used through to fermentation and maturation.
“Our new Adventura Winery means we can be true partners to our customers by offering the most comprehensive range of authentic and innovative wines that show the very best of what Chile has to offer,” said Andrés Alvarado, Morandé Wine Group’s export director for North America & Europe.
Designed by architect Samuel Claro, the startlingly modern building incorporates large windows and open spaces to maximise the use of natural light, reducing electricity consumption. It is also a gravitational winery, meaning that it uses the force of gravity to move the wine from one stage of production to the next, leading to further energy savings.
Inside, there is a veritable treasure trove of winemaking equipment, including: truncated conical tanks, cement eggs, open-topped oak tanks and foudres, ceramic tanks, inverted eggs, buried amphorae, troughs, Oxoline barrel structures, and Clyver ceramic vessels. Each will be used to achieve the optimum from the different grape varieties being experimented with.
“We’re experimenting with new varieties and non-traditional winemaking techniques, exploring new regions, recovering diverse heritage varieties, and driving new product and format innovations – allowing us to create Chile’s most complete and innovative wine offer to help further drive the Chilean wine industry forward,” added Alvarado.
The hope is to apply the findings from Adventura Winery across the whole Morandé wine range.
