Gourmet event in Japan’s Komatsu City showcases sake
Top Japanese and international chefs have created full-course menus paired with sake at Saketronomy in Komatsu City, Ishikawa, Japan.
In a recent report in Tokyo’s Time Out, a deep-dive piece looked at the way sake has increasingly become a drink to pair with fine dining. The report outlined how Komatsu Bishoku Valley, a gourmet organisation based in Komatsu, has been running a gastronomy-and-sake pairing event named Saketronomy up to four times a year.
The events are limited to around 50 people, but they have recently garnered an uplift in publicity for the ingredients, which are sourced from two local farms, and its sake, which comes from the renowned Komatsu-based Noguchi Naohiko Sake Institute.
The next event has yet to be announced, but fans of sake and fine dining can contact the institute to receive updates about the forthcoming meals.
Once the institute’s next planned event is announced, hopeful attendees have been told that they can expect to enter via a lottery on the institute’s website to be in with the chance to win the opportunity to book a seat at the table.
Prices for the high-end sake-pairing events are anticipated to be between ¥30,000 and ¥50,000 per person for the whole experience.
