db recommends: Florio Marsala New Geography tasting
Florio will be showcasing its Marsala New Geography range at a sneak preview tasting in London next week.
Founded in 1832, Florio has been producing high quality fortified wines for nearly two centuries. In its historic cellars there are some five million litres of Marsala, with the location of each cask measured in metres from the shore.
While the distance from the sea may seem small on paper, the changes in the humidity and salinity of the air have a significant impact on the development and taste of the wine.
In this walk-around tasting, from 2pm to 4pm on Wednesday 19 April at 67 Pall Mall, Florio Marsala director Roberto Magnisi and Italian wine expert Walter Speller will give insight into the Marsala New Geography range, comprised of only the most distinct casks, and explain how barrel location affects maturation.
The event will also see the launch of Florio’s new Altogrado wine, inspired by the Marsala’s rich 250 year history.
Marsala Florio falls within the DOC Marsala protected denomination, one of the oldest in Italy.
Places at the preview are on a first-come-first-served basis and can be booked here.
