Popular beer recalled over ‘excess alcohol’ warning

A popular Australian beer is being recalled by regulators over fears that cans may contain “excess alcohol” due to secondary fermentation.

Watermelon Sour Beer from Your Mates Brewing Co. is being recalled by Food Standards Australia New Zealand as unintentional secondary fermentation may have caused “excess alcohol” the body said.

“Consumers should not drink or open this product and should dispose of it safely. Please contact Your Mates Brewing Co for safe disposal instructions and to arrangement for reimbursement.”

This unintentional secondary fermentation could cause higher alcohol and carbonation levels than intended.

“We’ve only seen this occur in a handful of unrefrigerated cans so far, but we take the safety of our mates and quality of our beer very seriously, so we’ve jumped onto this with the authorities to execute our first-ever product recall,” Your Mates Brewing Co. wrote on Instagram.

“If you’ve got any Watermelon Sour tinnies, we’re advising you to not consume the beer as a safety precaution and contact us directly at info@yourmatesbrewing.com for advice on what to do with the tinnies in question. We’re also offering replacement beer or a full refund to those affected.

We want to say thanks to our loyal customers for supporting us. We’re gutted this has happened and apologise deeply for any inconvenience, but you can be sure we are committed to serving you only the best quality beers that you’ve come to expect from us.”
