Jameson will pay you US$10,000 to take St. Patrick’s Day off

Pernod Ricard-owned Jameson Irish Whiskey has come up with a novel way to ensure that people mark St. Patrick’s Day in appropriate style.

Yes, this year Jameson wants to make sure that no-one is missing out on the St. Patrick’s Day fun, by offering one lucky winner the chance to take home US$10,000 if they can prove that they have taken the day off on 17 March.

Dubbed the St. Patrick’s Day Time Off bonus, competition entrants can pledge to take time off on 17 March for a chance to win the hefty cash prize.

According to the entry form on the competition website, those wishing to take part will need to tell Jameson where and how they plan to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day between 3pm-4pm and provide contact details.

Jameson stipulates that the winner will be contacted between those hours and that the winner must be away from work and celebrating St Patrick’s Day to claim the cash prize.

The Pernod Ricard-owned Irish whiskey brand also partnered with American actress Regina Hall to create tongue-in-cheek ‘desk decoys’ – a personalised cardboard cutout that people can leave at their desk while they’re off celebrating on St. Patrick’s Day.

“We’ve all been there before — your boss forgot you took an SPTO [St. Patrick’s Time Off] and swings by to meet one-on-one. Or your finance department didn’t get your SPTO memo and requests your latest expense report while you’re out of the office,” said Jameson vice president of marketing Johan Radojewski. “That’s why in the true spirit of Jameson, we are introducing the Jameson Desk Decoy: a comical, life-size version of yourself for the office, so the real you can take that planned SPTO and go celebrate St. Patrick’s Day — with a Jameson, Ginger & Lime — guilt free!”

The personalised cardboard cutouts cost $17, with all proceeds benefitting the Restaurant Workers’ Community Foundation.
