Glenmorangie launches Amontillado Finish 12-year-old whisky
Glenmorangie has announced the launch of a “nutty and spicy” 12-year-old whisky finished in Amontillado Sherry casks.
Exclusive to Australia and the United Kingdom, Glenmorangie Amontillado Finish (46%) is the fourth release in the Distillery’s Barrel Select Release series of small-batch single malt.
The expression was inspired by distiller Dr Bill Lumsden’s appreciation of Amontillado Sherry. He sourced the Sherry casks to add a “complex twist” to Glenmorangie’s signature fruity style.
“I have always loved the nuttier, spicier tastes of Amontillado – my favourite style of Sherry,” Lumsden said. “It’s such a delight to bring its casks’ Sherried influences to our whisky’s signature delicate style for this special release.”
The casks were filled with whisky that had been ageing in American white oak Bourbon barrels for eight years. The liquid then spent another four years in the Amontillado casks until the desired flavours of cashews, clove, ginger and dried fruit were imparted.
“Aromas of dried fruit and cashews are balanced with peaches, while tastes of clove and ginger contrast wonderfully with orange and lemon,” Lumsden said. “Our fourth Barrel Select Release, Glenmorangie Amontillado Finish, is a delicious treat for any whisky lover.”
Glenmorangie Amontillado Finish is available exclusively to buy from The Whisky Club in Australia, and at the Glenmorangie visitor centre in Tain, Scotland and online in the UK.
