Biggest Uruguayan wine tasting to come to UK
It may be the smallest of the South American wine countries, but Uruguay is ready to make a big impression in London with the largest trade tasting yet of Uruguayan wines in the UK.
On 24th March, 16 producers and brands will be showing their wines at 67 Pall Mall in an afternoon trade tasting organised by the national viticulture institute, Uruguay.Wine. Many producers from Uruguay will be attending in person following their visit to Prowein earlier that week.
A trade masterclass in the morning will be hosted by author of The South America Wine Guide, Amanda Barnes, who will also be hosting a consumer evening for Members at 67 Pall Mall the
following week on 28th March.
“It is a really exciting time for Uruguayan wine at the moment, with so much to discover between the diverse regions, families and varieties being produced,” comments Barnes. “In the last five
years, we’ve not only seen a huge diversification in the styles and regions for Uruguay’s champion variety, Tannat, but we’ve also seen some really exciting white wines come to the fore. This Atlantic country lends itself to thrilling whites and savoury reds, and I am really looking forward to the producers being able to show off the latest vintages to the trade here in London.”
Producers at the tasting include some of Uruguay’s most established names, with the likes of Garzón, Bouza, Pisano and Familia Deicas, as well as several new brands – some of which are showing for the first time in the UK – including Proyecto Nakkal, Bohemia by Fiore and Compañía Uruguaya de Vinos de Mar.
