WineChain lines up prestigious wineries for launch
WineChain, an NFT platform specialising in fine and prestige wine DTC sales, has unveiled the list of wineries that will be available, including prestigious Champagne Houses and Bordeaux chateaux.
Champagne Houses Louis Roederer, Fleur de Miraval and Henri Giraud have signed up the site, along with Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, and Weingut Egon Müller (see below for the full list). The winemakers will be able to sell the wines they choose on the platform, and directly access and interact with WineChain’s community of buyers.
The start-up aims to be a secure “new generation” marketplace of wine NFTS or ‘wiNeFTs’ (as they are known on WineChain) which is backed up with blockchain technology and Web3 (a new version of the worldwide web which incorporates blockchain technology and token-based economics). It was founded by the former head of Amazon Europe, Xavier Garambois, Guillaume Jourdan, CEO of VitaBella and Nicolas Mendiharat, CEO of the San Francisco Palate Club and launched at the end of May 2022, after securing more than $1 million in backing from wine estates and wine lovers. In September it secured a second tranche of investment, after raising €6 million from some of the best known names in fine wine.
Backers included the Rouzaud family of Champagne Roederer and Château Pichon-Comtesse, the Reybier family of St Emilion’s Château Cos d’Estournel, the Moueix family of Videlot and Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel, as well as venture capital fund, Fabric Ventures.
Milestone
The company said it was “humbled” to announce the list of prestigious wineries that are now available on WineChain.
“This is a major milestone for WineChain and we are thrilled to be able to soon offer our community the opportunity to own a piece of some of the world’s most renowned wines,” it said.
Antoine Pétrus, director of major international estates at WineChain sais that the winemakers who had signed up were “convinced” that the guarantee of traceability offered by Web3, and the transparency and accessibility of transactions designed to open the world of wine to a whole new generation of enthusiasts, “represent the future”.
‘Through this initiative, WineChain is resolutely committed to offering this disruptive, blockchain-based technology to all châteaux, estates and Champagne houses whose search for excellence is ongoing and permanent,” he said.
