The week in pictures

This week in the world of drinks: Kylie Minogue celebrates WorldPride with a glass of her award-winning rosé, Douglas Blyde reports on the 15 new cocktails gracing London’s The Connaught Bar, and Wines of Hungary UK hosts its fifth annual Furmint February tasting.

Pop princess Kylie Minogue is in Sydney to celebrate WorldPride’s opening concert, at which she is the headline performer. Kylie celebrated the opening of the event with her award-winning rosé expression.

Marking the fifteenth anniversary of The Connaught Bar, the dream team led by Director of Mixology, Agostino Perrone, Assistant Director of Mixology, Giorgio Bargiani, and Bar Manager, Maura Milia, unveiled 15 new cocktails this week at the five-star haven of creativity, writes Douglas Blyde. Named Synergia, which, says Perrone, ultimately translates the Connaught Bar’s approach to, and “celebration of” hospitality, the compendium unravels over three chapters, being Self, Synergy and Other, available alongside the likes of Gillardeau laser etched oysters and wagyu in brioche. A highlight from “Other” is “Your Point of View”, starring Japanese gin, raspberry cream, lemon liqueur, Maley Cider and the new make wine reaped from the Hundred Hills estate in the vicinity of Henley.

Wines of Hungary UK hosted its fifth annual Furmint February tasting on Monday 20th February, held at Vintners’ Hall in London. Guests had the opportunity to taste over 140 wines from 24 producers, this year featuring a snapshot from the 2021 vintage. Alongside the walk-around tasting, Caroline Gilby MW led two masterclasses; a ‘New Vintage Showcase 2021’, and ‘Connecting with Place: The Single Vineyard Story’, aiming to build the story of Tokaj’s historic vineyard classification.

And Scott Davidson, new product development director at Scottish glassware company Glencairn Crystal, has been admitted as a Liveryman to The Worshipful Company of Distillers, as well as becoming a Freeman of the City of London.

Davidson said: “It is truly an honour to be invited to join The Worshipful Company of Distillers and great to further have our company recognised for its commitment to the drinks industry success for over 40 years”.
