The Glenrothes launches a limited edition 42-year-old whisky
Speyside whisky The Glenrothes has launched a limited release single cask liquid that has been matured for more than 40 years.
‘The 42’ has been created by master whisky maker Laura Rampling from four aged casks deemed to be at the “pinnacle of flavour”.
It is the first whisky of its age to be released by the distillery, and epitomises the character of The Glenrothes distillery, Rampling said, with only 1,134 bottles being released worldwide.
“These four casks have taken our spirit on a journey of maturation over more than four decades, refining the original delicate and fruity character of our new make spirit without overpowering it,” she explained. “Part science, part alchemy and a little bit of magic, the result is a beautifully elegant whisky that truly allows the bright and vibrant character of The Glenrothes to sing.”
Its tasting notes talk of “distinctive aromas of sun-ripened apricots, sugared almonds, orange peel and coriander seed” with “creamy vanilla, honeycomb and fragrant orange oil on the palate” and a lingering aromatic finish, the distillery said.
The liquid also reflects the changing colours of the landscape around the distillery, while the contoured packaging has been designed to reflect the local terrain.
Brand director Kerr Arthur added that The Glenrothes 42 captures “a true moment in time that celebrates generations of excellence, honours patience and evokes the vitality of Rothes.”
The 42 will retail at upmarket retailers Fortnum & Mason, Harrods and The Whisky Shop for £6,750.
