Showerings Triple Vintage launches into luxury cider category

Showerings has introduced its first luxury cider, named Showerings Triple Vintage.

The Somerset-based cider house told the drinks business that to create the luxury cider for its debut launch, the 2021 vintage has been blended with 2017 and 2018 vintages, then slowly fermented, giving it the time needed to mature.

Speaking to db, Showerings Limited founder Nick Showering, said: “Time is the key ingredient that stands Showerings apart from other ciders.  Our cider is not hastily pressed, packaged and shipped but a considered and long-time-coming blend of three vintages. The skill of knowing when each vintage has had enough time to reach the requisite mellow fruitfulness is an art in itself.”

The dry, gently-carbonated deeply-cultured 6.8% ABV cider will be available to buy in 375ml bottles, marking more of a resemblance to wine than many other cider bottlings available.

The apples used are predominantly the Dabinett variety and have been grown from a single award-winning orchard by an expert horticulturist before being selected, harvested and taken to the Showerings’ cider mill just seven miles away.

“Once pressed, each batch sits and settles for a minimum of four months, allowing the sharper edges of tannins and acidities to soften to the requisite mellow fruitfulness,” said Showering.

Showerings head cider maker Bob Cork, explained: “Over the last five years we have overcome many technical challenges to craft a genuine Triple Vintage Cider that is truly exceptional. We have created a new technique for blending different vintages to produce what I believe to be the most complex and refreshing cider on the market. After many years working in the cider business, I feel privileged to be part of making such a prestigious cider that has exceeded all of our expectations.”

Showering added: “The ambition for Showerings Triple Vintage is simple – to change the perception of cider drinking and give it a long overdue and deserved place at any Michelin-starred table”.

Showerings Triple Vintage is available to buy online via Showerings website for £45 for a case of 12 x 375ml bottles as well as being available to buy at Cambridge Wine. It is also available to drink in the likes of Zephyr in Notting Hill, Thyme Hotel in Lechlade, and Limewood Hotel in Lyndhurst.
