Speed Rack was co-founded by Lynnette Marrero and Ivy Mix in 2011 to highlight leading womxn+ in the bar industry, with 100% of the proceeds going to women’s charities. To date, the competition has raised (and donated) more than US$1.5million to charities.
The 11th season of the competition, which pits mixologists against one another in timed challenges, kicked off at the end of last year in Atlanta and Mexico City. It was then followed by a competition this January in Chicago, and, on Monday 13 February, will be headed to Denver. The grand final of this edition will be held in New Orleans on 23 July.
Lauren Mote, global director of on-trade excellence for Patrón, said: “Speed Rack aligns with our Patrón tequila brand DNA and our education platforms, not only in what it contributes to creating a sense of community within the bar industry, but also because of the cause it supports. Representing and empowering those womxn+ who strive to have opportunities and a stage to showcase their talent and determination is something we strongly feel about. As our Academia Patrón and Patrón Perfectionists programs are stepping into an exciting new era to provide further educational opportunities for bartenders globally, we couldn’t be prouder of partnering with Speed Rack and give back to such a vast platform of bartenders around the world.”
