Online bidding begins for Premiere Napa Valley
On Friday (10 February), bidding began on 154 unique Premiere Napa Valley wine lots, as well as an additional 54 late release winery selections, through Sotheby’s.
“Each year, our winemaking community looks forward to creating one-of-a-kind wines exclusively for Premiere Napa Valley. These wines are a hallmark of our region, shining a light on our spirit of innovation and commitment to quality winemaking,” explained Priyanka French, Premiere Napa Valley Steering Committee chair and winemaker for Signorello Estate.
Lots at the annual Premiere Napa Valley (of which this edition is the 27th) range in size from 60 to 240 bottles. This year, the 2021 vintage will be making its debut. French revealed why it is such a prized year: “The 2021 vintage will be remembered for near-perfect weather. Low yields and small, flavour-packed berries created outstanding wines. It is an absolute joy to showcase this incredible vintage and its complex reds at Premiere Napa Valley.”
There is also the Vintage Perspective Auction: 54 older vintage wine lots from the 2004 to 2013 vintages. Sotheby’s Wine & Spirits worldwide chairman Jamie Ritchie said: “When you are fortunate to taste older vintages from the greatest Napa Valley producers, there is no doubt that they develop slowly, gain in depth and complexity and reward those that are patient enough to resist pulling the cork earlier.”
Buyers can bid online from anywhere in the world. There will be a live-streamed online auction beginning at 1pm PST on Saturday 25 February. All proceeds from the auction are used to fund programmes intended to promote, protect and enhance Napa Valley.
