Bonhams to hold its first UK online-only wine auction

Bonhams has unveiled its first UK online-only sale of Fine and Rare Wines and Spirits, which comprises two substantial single-owner private collections of classic growths from Burgundy and leading Bordeaux Châteaux. 

The Burgundy collections comprises around 90 lots, what includes an impressive selection of Grand Cru wines from the Côte d’Or, including two six-bottle cases of Chevalier-Montrachet 2009, Domaine Leflaive (estimate: £6,000-7,000 per case), eight bottles of Bâtard-Montrachet 2001, Domaine Leflaive (estimate: £5,500-6,500), five bottles of Bienvenues Bâtard-Montrachet 2009, Domaine Leflaive (estimate: £3,500-4,200) and six bottles of Montrachet 2010, Louis Jadot (estimate: £3,000-3,800).

Meanwhile the leading lots from the Bordeaux collection includes two dozen-bottle cases of Château Latour 2009 (estimate: £6,500-7,500 per case), two dozen-bottle cases of Château Lafite Rothschild 2010, (estimate: £6,000-7,000) and two dozen-bottle cases of Château Haut-Brion 2009 (estimate: £5,000-6,000).

There is also a selection of wines from Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, including six bottles of La Tâche 1998 (estimate: £25,000-30,000), six bottles of Richebourg 2000 (estimate: £15,000-18,000), three bottles of Romanée-Conti 2000 (estimate: £14,000-16,000 per bottle) and three bottles of Bourgogne Aligoté 2014, from Domaine d’Auvenay (estimate: £10,000-12,000).

Bonhams senior international director of wine, Richard Harvey MW, explained that while online-only wine sales had been held in Hong Kong for many years, it was the first time an online-only venture had been held in the UK.

“We have assembled a very fine selection of wines for our first auction of 2023, including two substantial single-owner collections as well as interesting offerings of Italian wines, Riesling, Port and Cognac,” he said.

The sale will take place from 14-23 February.
