Alcohol-free beer brand Lucky Saint is opening a central London pub

Alcohol-free beer producer Lucky Saint has announced that it will open a central London pub that will also act as a ‘brand home’, with an opening date anticipated in early March.

Lucky Saint’s founder, Luke Boase, revealed the news in a LinkedIn post titled ‘A pub For Our Times’.

Boase said the idea came to him while searching on Rightmove for office space a couple of years ago. It is a testament to brand’s success in the intervening time that the question changed from “What if we could rent the upper floors of a pub as an office?” To “What if we opened a pub called The Lucky Saint and built a brand home?”

The Lucky Saint is the resulting venue, taking the place of former pub The Mason’s Arms. Boase said he became aware of the venue’s fate when BBC radio DJ Greg James posted about it on Instagram.

“Greg James, of BBC Radio fame, put a story on Instagram in spring 2022 showing his favourite pub, The Masons, in full sunny glory. And then another showing its current state, squatters in residence, with a request that someone bring it back to life.”

Thus, the journey of The Lucky Saint started in earnest.

The pub will serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, alongside “reimagined pub classic” foods. The venue will also serve as a hub for the brand, and host events throughout the year. Boase cited “ride outs and run clubs around Regent’s Park” in his LinkedIn post, while a space to hold Mental Health First Aid Training will also be provided.

Luke Boase, commented on the news

“Pubs have been at the heart of communities, and alcohol has been at the heart of pubs, for centuries. As attitudes towards alcohol change, it’s an opportunity for pubs to evolve. Our aim is to keep pubs cemented as the place for social connection whilst building on our mission to inspire the world to drink better”.

Emma McClarkin, CEO of the BBPA (British Beer & Pub Association) added, ““Lucky Saint are a business full of brilliant ideas, with a passion for people, so it’s a natural fit for them to invest in and support the pub industry. It’s great to see the old institution, The Mason’s Arms, given a new lease of life as The Lucky Saint.”

Lucky Saint’s Head of Creative, Megan Taylor, is credited with bringing the project to life.

Lucky Saint lager is currently brewed in Germany under license, perhaps part of the decision to create a ‘brand home’ for the alcohol-free beer outside of a local brewery.
