Toku Saké brings rare super premium Junmai Daiginjo to the UK
Toku Saké has released its debut liquid, a Junmai Daiginjo brewed in Asahikawa, the coldest city in Japan’s Hokkaido prefecture.
The rare super premium saké will be limited to just 1,500 bottles and will go into prestige accounts across the UK including The Aubrey at Mandarin Oriental and has been brewed in Asahikawa in
Speaking to the drinks business, Winnie Toh, head sommelier at The Aubrey, Mandarin Oriental said: “We are delighted to be among the first to partner with Toku Saké following their UK launch. Saké is gaining popularity among our guests as they explore new drinking occasions and we celebrate new super premium brands such as Toku raising awareness of the versatility of the category. Toku Junmai Daiginjo is delicate and inviting, but complex – ideal to enjoy chilled with a range of foods.”
The saké, which is made with highly polished Yamadanishiki rice and fermented in freezing conditions to create a liquid of unparalleled flavour and quality, is graded at the highest quality of saké – Junmai Daiginjo.
To create the saké, Toku consulted a selection of the UK’s top bartenders, sommeliers and saké specialists and partnered with bartender and sommelier, Stuart Hudson to develop a range of seven serves that bring to life its relationship with the cold and the alluring dichotomy of Japanese culture.
Grace Hunt, head of advocacy at Toku Saké added: “The quality of and demand for Japanese food and drink is universally recognised, most recently evidenced in the stratospheric boom in Japanese whisky. We believe the opportunity for a contemporary, super premium saké is enormous. Toku is the embodiment of the dichotomy between the cutting edge technology of Japan and its ancient ritualistic heritage. Founded on the idea of bringing a contemporary, versatile liquid to a Western audience, we could not be prouder or more excited to launch our rarified liquid to the UK on-trade. We are truly on the crest of a wave for the category and look forward to seeing it grow across the world.”
Demonstrating its dedication to sustainability, Toku has also partnered with Treeapp in order to offset the total carbon footprint of the business.
