The Grand Chianti Classico Tasting comes to London
On Monday 21 November in London, 38 wine producers will showcase the full gamut of Chianti Classico at a very special day of tastings and masterclasses.
The Grand Chianti Classico Tasting will take place between 11.30pm – 6.30pm at One Great George Street featuring 38 producers showcasing roughly 160 Chianti Classico Annata, Riserva, Gran Selezione & Vin Santo wines.
A masterclass will be hosted by Michaela Morris, Chianti Classico ambassador titled The Black Rooster Wine, while The River Cafe’s co-head chef Joseph Trivelli will host The Black Rooster Olive Oil masterclass.
For the first time in London, the wineries at the tasting will be grouped by their sub-zone, or “UGA”. Eleven Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive (Additional Geographical Units) were introduced in 2021 and now the village can appear on the label for the Gran Selezione level of wines. The UGAs are as follows: Castellina, Castelnuovo Beradenga, Gaiole, Greve, Lamole, Montefioralle, Panzano, Radda, San Casciano, San Donato in Poggio and Vagliagli. The goal was to split the denomination into smaller, more homogenous areas which show their provenance in their style of wine. The Consorzio therefore hopes that grouping the wineries in their UGAs will help the UK trade to learn about the different styles coming from these 11 subzones.
