Queer Brewing launches beer to mark Trans Day of Remembrance

Queer Brewing will be marking Trans Day of Remembrance on 20 November with the release of Fight Like Hell, an 8% ABV double IPA.

The double IPA is hopped with Citra and Simcoe, and is fermented with Voss Kveik yeast. On the palate it has tropical flavours of tangerine, lime, mango and lychee.

Speaking to db, Queer Brewing founder and owner Lily Waite said: “Fight Like Hell is the epitome of what Queer Brewing is about, and it’s the certainly beer I’m most proud of. I began Queer Brewing as a way to use beer as a platform to affect change, and bring issues to the attention of a wider audience that might not be aware of them, as well taking up space and being visible in a way that might provide some representation for LGBTQ+ people in and around the beer world. Fight Like Hell is a distillation of that: we’re using our platform to speak about the issues facing trans people, to mark Trans Day of Remembrance—a day that grows ever more poignant as violence and prejudice against trans people, both individual and systemic, increases year on year.”

Waite founded the brewery in 2019, and since then the company has brewed more than 50 different beers in five countries, raising £35,000 for various charities.

Waite explained: “This year the beer is raising money for Transmissions, an East London-based trans community space and hub, who do great work in their local community in providing a safe and welcome space for trans people every week, and we couldn’t be more proud to support them.”

Trans Day of Remembrance was first marked in 1999 to commemorate trans people who have been the victims of violence. Last year, Fight Like Hell raised £900 for the Black Trans Foundation, which provides therapy for black trans and non-binary people in the UK.

The beer will be available via Queer Brewing.
