Man jailed for four-and-a-half years after attempt to rob Conor McGregor’s pub

A man has been jailed for four-and-a-half years after a “haphazard” attempt to rob a pub owned by UFC megastar Conor McGregor.

Jason Paget, 35, pleaded guilty to one count of burglary at the Marble Arch pub in Drimnagh, Dublin – which is owned by McGregor – in August of last year.

The 35-year-old also pleaded guilty to assault causing harm, taking possession of a vehicle without the consent of the owner, and dangerous driving while he was on bail for his role in the pub burglary.

According to reports, gardai noticed that the pub’s shutters had been forced open and an alarm was ringing. Two men were seen trying to force a cash register under the shutter doors and Paget was arrested in the vicinity of the Marble Arch pub roughly 30 minutes later.

Paget has 15 prior convictions and the judge noted that he was taking steps to address addiction issues he was experiencing at the time of the burglary of the Conor McGregor-owned pub.

Earlier this year, another pub owned by Conor McGregor in the Dublin area was targeted in an alleged petrol bombing attack.

Management of the Black Forge Inn in Dublin said in a statement that the alleged attackers “made an unprovoked effort to inflict damage”. No-one was injured and McGregor himself was not there at the time of the break in.

Conor McGregor owns several pubs in the Dublin area, and is the co-founder of Irish whisky Proper No. Twelve. He was the first fighter in UFC history to hold two belts in different weight classes simultaneously, but has not fought since breaking his leg in a bout against fellow lightweight Dustin Poirier.
