db recommends: The Grand Chianti Classico Tasting
Join 38 wine producers representing Chianti Classico in London on Monday 21 November, plus special masterclasses on Gran Selezione and olive oil.
Joseph Trivelli, co-head chef of the River Café, will deliver a masterclass on the region’s olive oil, while Chianti Classico ambassador Michaela Morris will host another masterclass on Gran Selezione.
Roughly half of the producers attending are already represented in the UK, with the other half actively seeking UK representation. The producers are travelling to London to show their wines in person – and there will be around 160 Chianti Classico Annata, Riserva, Gran Selezione & Vin Santo wines available to taste.
For the first time in London, the wineries at the tasting will be grouped by their sub-zone, or “UGA”. Eleven Unità Geografiche Aggiuntive (Additional Geographical Units) were introduced in 2021 and now the village can appear on the label for the Gran Selezione level of wines.
