The week in pictures

This week in the world of drinks: db visits The Savoy’s Beaufort Bar, Champagne Bollinger welcomes 2021 Madame Bollinger medal winner to the house in Aÿ, and Scapegrace toasts the launch of its first single malt.

Champagne Bollinger welcomed the 2021 Institute of Masters of Wine Madame Bollinger Medal winner, Álvaro Ribalta MW, to the House in Aÿ in Champagne earlier this month.

Álvaro Ribalta MW said: “Being awarded the Madame Bollinger Medal on the day of my graduation was a great surprise. However, I would have never imagined how exciting and memorable our visit to this historic house would be. My family, friends and I were very warmly welcomed, taken through a very special visit and enjoyed the best hospitality. Our visit to Bollinger will remain as one of the most special days in our lives.”

We visited The Savoy Hotel’s Beaufort Bar to sample drinks from its new, opulent nighttime concept, Nocturne.

Open until 1am, the Beaufort Bar is launching a new nightly programme of DJs, alongside a luxurious cocktail list inspired by the scents and complex flavours of Champagne.

New Zealand’s largest independent spirits brand, Scapegrace, has announced the release of its highly-anticipated first whisky, a limited-edition range of Single Malts. The announcement comes fresh from the company’s latest NZ $25m distillery project.

And Mermaid Gin recently partnered with Sea Containers on the South Bank to host a three-course food and cocktail pairing evening for consumers, as well as organising a Thames River clean raising money for the charity Surfers Against Sewage.
