Rueda announces 2022 wine ambassadors
DO Rueda has announced its first UK ambassadors as part of a new promotional initiative, with the goal of taking public perception “up to and beyond the next level” for Spain’s top white wine producing region.
Journalist Jane Clare and Owen Morgan, owner of Group 44, have been chosen as the first ever Rueda Wine Ambassadors for 2022. The DO has created the roles to build awareness of Rueda wines among UK consumers. Clare is set to focus on promoting the region for the trade, while Morgan’s role will centre around the on-trade.
Santiago Mora, general manager for the DO, said that despite a “tough choice” among applicants, Clare and Morgan are best placed to “give us the support we need at this stage in our development
in the UK”.
Clare commented that she was “thrilled to be given the chance to share these vibrant Rueda wines with a whole new audience”, and to refresh the enthusiasm of other wine drinkers “who may have forgotten just how enjoyable the wines of this region can be”.
She added: “Rueda is going through a growth period; and through face-to-face events, the written word and social media, I’m ready to help take the region up to and beyond the next level where it deserves to be.”
Owen Morgan called his appointment a “real honour”, after listing DO Rueda wines in his restaurants and bars for the last 20 years, educating customers on “their quality and versatility”.
“Most importantly, the guest feedback is always extremely positive,” he said. “I’m very much looking forward to implementing my plans to promote all styles of Rueda wines. As always, my strategy involves great information and knowledge, but with a focus on engaging as many people as possible in a fun relaxed environment, via lots of different on trade activities and events.”
