Top 10 wine producing states in the US
The US remains the largest wine consuming country in the world, but it also produces its fair share. From Napa Valley to Willamette Valley, the east coast may dominate when it comes to reputation, but you might be surprised to hear which other wine producing states make it into the top 10.
Americans may drink a lot of wine, but they also produce a large proportion of the world’s vino.
2021 estimates on country-by-country wine consumption from the International Organise of Vine and Wine (OIV) reveal which nations enjoy a tipple the most. Despite the Western European reputation for a glass with lunch and a glass with dinner, it would appear that the US (with its population of approximately 258 million adults) consumes the most wine per annum.
According to Forbes, the US ranks fourth in terms of wine producing countries across the world, following Spain, France and Italy coming in first place.
Most wine lovers will be less than surprised to hear that California produces the majority of wine coming out of the US, but which other states rank in the top 10? World Population Review has calculated the wine producing states in the US, and the list contains a few surprises.
