Ridgeview Wine Estate achieves B Corp certification

English sparkling wine estate Ridgeview has today announced its achievement of B Corp accreditation, with an overall impact score of 92.9.

Ridgeview Wine Estate achieves B Corp certification

B Corp certification is granted after a thorough assessment of a brand’s social and environmental impact. In total, more than 200 questions are asked of each brand, covering everything from the office to the vineyard.

With an overall B Corp impact score of 92.9, Ridgeview achieved notably high scores in areas such as ‘Environment’, ‘Ethics & Transparency’, ‘Diversity, Equity & Inclusion’, ‘Mission & Engagement’ and ‘Governance’.

Ridgeview has pledged a commitment to becoming carbon neutral across all three scopes assessed by B Lab, the non-profit responsible for granting B Corp status, by 2030.

Tamara Roberts, Ridgeview’s second-generation CEO commented that the winery’s “holistic approach to decision-making” made joining the B Corp community “feel like coming home”.

She said: “To be a part of the B Corp network, we can amplify and accelerate our positive impact collaboratively with other businesses, looking to ways in which we can do things better and differently. It’s about doing the right thing and supporting our business firmly with our values as part of a community of businesses with a common purpose. The job is not done and nor will it ever be, we need to continue to look to ways in which we can learn and grow.”

Chris Turner, Executive Director of B Lab UK, noted that the importance of B Corp as a certification demonstrates that “you can do good in any sector”.

“Welcoming Ridgeview is an exciting moment, they have an opportunity to lead the way within the English Wine industry. We and the rest of the B Corp community are really pleased to support Ridgeview in paving the way for a new way of doing things,” he said.

Piper-Heidsieck, Charles Heidsieck and Rare Champagne, all part of EPI Group, became the first houses in Champagne to achieve B Corp certification in August.

Ridgeview Wine Estates spoke to db at the beginning of September about the 2022 harvest. Read more on that here.
