Franzia Wines launches boxed wine Halloween costume for dogs

One of the best-known names in boxed wine has released a canine costume in time for next month’s Halloween celebrations, and we’re here for it.

If dressing your pooch up as a pumpkin feels a bit old hat this Halloween then this boxed wine costume for four-legged friends might just hit the spot.

Franzia Wines has collaborated with dog product brand Bark to create the sartorial win, complete with adjustable velcro straps to tailor it to your pet’s size.

The cosy get-up sports the words ‘Bark Red Blend’ along the side, and instead of 34 bottles, the ‘wine box’ reads ’34 dog bowls’.

It joins an existing range of human costumes including a Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay outfit, both of which are fully functional as boxed wine, with an inner bag that straps around the waist and allows a Franzia wine pouch to fit inside the costume for easy pouring.

The dog version does not dispense wine.

“Franzia is all about bonding with friends — whom we affectionately call ‘Franz’ — over a box of wine,” Katie Hoefs, brand manager of The Wine Group, which owns Franzia, said in a statement. “Our Halloween costumes have been a fan-favorite for years, so it only made sense to extend the fun to our favorite furry Franz with a four-legged costume.”

As part of the collaboration with Bark, Franzia has also created The Cabernet Slobbernon; a dog toy that includes a tugging rope andd squeaker.

The Franzia family sold the brand and its California-based winery to Coca-Cola in 1973 for stock valued at around US$49.3 million. The winery was later sold to The Wine Group in 1981, which owns more than 26 wine brands including Foxhorn Vineyards, Beringer and Concannon.
