Wine-Searcher adds Liv-Ex ID codes to its database
Wine-Searcher, the price comparison website for wines and spirits, has teamed up with Liv-ex to add the fine wine market place’s LWIN identification codes into its database to make it easier and more efficient for merchants to use.
Liv-ex Wine Identification Numbers (LWINs), a system owned and managed by Liv-ex, is similar to a book’s ISBN number in that it provides a code containing information about a wine’s colour, vintage, bottle and pack size that can be recognised by computer systems throughout the supply chain. This enables systems to communicate instantly and seamlessly across the supply chain without the need for repeated manual data entry.
The incorporation of LWINS into Wine-Searcher means that wine merchants uploading lists of their wines to Wine-Searcher can do so more accurately and faster, reducing the likelihood of errors which occur during manual matching of wines on the database.
Wine-Searcher’s wine director David Allen MW said the company’s database contained over 750,000 unique products, for most of which display multiple vintages and this would make wine matching and discovery “simpler and more accurate for our wide range of industry users”.
Merchants that are using the Wine-Searcher API can also use the LWIN codes to streamline their data access process, the company said in a statement. “The API supplies all kinds of information about the global portfolio of wines and spirits, including pricing information, wine attributes and quality scores. Merchants also integrate daily price updates from the API into their own pricing flow to keep themselves and their customers in the know and up to date.
Liv-ex director Anthony Maxwell said it was great to see a significant industry player likeWine-Searcher incorporate the LWIN codes along with merchants such as like Vinous, Berry Brothers & Rudd, and London City Bond. “The Wine-Searcher integration makes more data points (beyond Liv-ex prices) available to more wine businesses worldwide,” he said.
