Constellation Brands contributes US$700K to The Nature Conservancy
Constellation Brands has declared a two-year commitment of US$700,000 to The Nature Conservancy in a bid to restore water system health.
The contribution, which is reportedly set to benefit watersheds in communities where the drinks company operates, will contribute to its recently announced water replenishment targets.
Earlier in the year, Constellation Brands revealed it had made a US$200,000 donation to support TNC’s broader Global Resilient Watersheds program, an initiative that is focused on investing in forest protection, regenerative agriculture and wetland restoration. The initiative also has a goal to restore watershed health and revitalise degraded freshwater systems across the globe in an effort to make a real difference to nature conservation.
The remaining funds will be leveraged over two years in support of The Nature Conservancy’s water management programs in California and help target communities wherever Constellation Brands’ winery facilities and operations reside.
Additionally, the commitment to conservation is expected to provide volumetric benefits towards the drinks giant’s water replenishment goals which involve it aiming to restore 1.1 billion gallons of water withdrawals from watersheds, while improving accessibility and quality of water for communities where the company operates between 2023 and 2025.
Constellation Brands’ EVP and chief communications, CSR and diversity officer Mike McGrew said: “We recognise access to clean water is a human right, and as a community member it is our responsibility to help ensure the resiliency of this resource in the areas where we live and work for generations to come.”
McGrew added: “Collaborating with community members and supporting organisations like TNC to determine how we can collectively protect and restore water sources is a key component of our overall water stewardship strategy.”
