Wimbledon fan accused by Kyrgios of having ‘700 drinks’ speaks out
The fan who Nick Kyrgios had kicked off Centre Court during the Wimbledon final on Sunday has come forward, claiming she’d had just two drinks and was trying to support the Australian tennis player.
Ania Palus was accused by Kyrgios of having “700 drinks” during the Wimbledon men’s final on Sunday, and was temporarily removed from Centre Court.
The Polish lawyer has since come forward, claiming she had just one glass of rosé and one Pimm’s during the Australian’s match against Novak Djokovic, which the Serbian won in four sets, sealing him a seventh Wimbledon title and 21st major trophy.
Palus told The Sun she was trying to show her support for the Australian player, who is currently ranked number 45 in the world despite making it to the Wimbledon final.
She said: “He always says the crowd is against him and I wanted to show we were for him, I wanted to encourage him.
“I only had one Pimm’s and one rosé.”
The 32-year-old claimed that the heat was to blame for her behaviour, saying: “It’s the temperature for me, I had no hat. I’m really sorry.”
Kyrgios had the fan removed from Centre Court during the third set, demanding that she was too drunk.
He told the Umpire: “Why is she still here?
“She’s drunk out of her mind and speaking to me in the middle of a game.”
When asked to point her out, he described Palus as “the one who looks like she’s had about 700 drinks”.
But the fan wasn’t the only person on the receiving end of the Australian’s fiery attitude, as he was also seen shouting up to his family and girlfriend demanding more support.
“Do you f****** care at all?” he was heard shouting up to them during the match.
The Championships are now over, but despite some high drama on Centre Court, it’s the food and drink prices at SW19 that have set tongues wagging. Read more on that here.
