The Uncommon welcomes wild bison to UK with new charity partnership
English canned wine company The Uncommon has announced a partnership with Kent Wildlife Trust, as the charity welcomed the first wild bison to the UK in thousands of years.
Conservation charity Kent Wildlife Trust manages over 80 nature reserves across Kent, protecting the landscape for wildlife.
This week, Kent Wildlife Trust, in association with The Wildwood Trust, made headlines by releasing European bison into a woodland in Kent.
Situated just 10 miles from The Uncommon’s vineyard, this week marks the first-time wild bison have roamed in the UK for thousands of years.
The B-Corp English wine brand has announced a partnership with the conservation charity, and pledges to donate at least 2% of its revenue to charitable conservation projects over the next year.
Henry Connell, co-founder of The Uncommon said: “We are very aware that the future successes of the English winemaking industry are interlinked with the climate warming we’ve experienced this past week. This makes supporting our local communities and environment of paramount important to us, to help mitigate future damage.”
“We’re unbelievably proud to support this pioneering project as well as other nationally important but locally delivered ‘wilding’ projects going forwards. This is just the beginning, but we hope it inspires others to break tradition for the better.”
Tamarin Ward, director of fundraising, marcomms and advocacy at Kent Wildlife Trust added: “We are delighted to be partnering with The Uncommon as we welcome Kent’s newest wild residents, our amazing bison, into Blean’s ancient woodland.”
The Uncommon became the first B-Corp certified UK wine company at the beginning of this year, due to the brand’s fully domestic supply chain and commitment to local production. Read more about the company’s certification here.
