Bar introduces ‘Johnny Depp Shot’ for men who feel unsafe
A bar has introduced its own take on the now well known angel shot, intended to help men who feel unsafe or might discreetly need help while on a night out.
The Johnny Depp Shot went viral on Reddit after an image of a poster advertising it in an unknown bar was posted to the microblogging site.
“Feeling unsafe or scared, just come to the bar and order a Johnny Depp shot”, the poster reads.
The poster explains there are three iterations to the Johnny Depp shot.
‘Neat’ will lead to staff escorting you discreetly out of the venue.
‘On the rocks’ will prompt bar staff to call you a cab.
‘With lime’ is an indication for staff to phone the police.
While many people were complimentary of the scheme in essence, numerous social media users called out the bar’s decision to name it after Johnny Depp. The name is seemingly a reference to the actor’s recent defamation trial against former partner Amber Heard, during which a jury awarded Depp $15m, and $2m to Heard.
It seems the the Johnny Depp shot is a take on the now-famous angel shot scheme that was devised in a bid to help women keep safe on a night out.
Last year, TikTok user Benji Spears went viral after drawing peoples’ attention to the angel shot.
“Angel shots are becoming more common throughout all bars and brought to bartenders attention.
“So an angel shot is key. It can save you or your best friend’s life and it’s something we should all know.” Spears said in the video, which featured a demonstration of how the angel shot scheme works.
