How much can Love Island contestants actually drink in the villa?

Perhaps unsurprisingly, alcohol consumption is closely monitored on the ITV smash reality show, but how much can Love Island contestants really drink in the villa?

Despite a recent report claiming that reality TV was “bombarding” young people with images of alcohol use, the contestants in the Love Island villa are certainly restricted when it comes to their own consumption, as former contestants reveal.

Dr Alex George, who appeared on the show in 2018 – for this writer’s money, the last truly great series – has previously revealed how much Love Island contestants actually drink in the villa.

He told social media outlet Tyla that contestants were allowed “four small cans of beer and that was it.

“That was the maximum allowance of alcohol, which wasn’t a lot.

“I mean you certainly weren’t getting drunk off that – but they were very, very strict on that.”

Dr Alex George is now a UK Youth Mental Health Ambassador within the Department of Education.

And another previous Love Island-er, Liana Isadora Van-Riel, previously told the Sun that contestants could drink “one or two drinks a night, either wine or beer, no spirits.”

A spokesperson for the show said: “We provide our islanders with all of the necessary precautionary measures and all alcohol consumption is strictly monitored by our production team.”

Islanders are also directed away from cameras should they wish to smoke or vape, and must go out one at a time to avoid social smoking.
