Jeremy Clarkson shares latest beer advert that was ‘irritatingly banned’

Jeremy Clarkson has largely been promoting his new Hawkstone lager by revealing his many failed attempts to get a TV ad past regulators. Now, he has shared his latest failed attempt, with another would-be commercial that was “irritatingly banned”.

The star of Amazon Prime hit Clarkson’s Farm launched his Hawkstone lager earlier this year with the help of Cotswold Brew Co. While supposedly attempting to come up with an appropriate tagline for the beer, Clarkson fell foul of the Advertising Standards Authority for his suggestions. Pitches that were dismissed by the regulator included “This is a delicious breakfast beer” and “If you’re an alcoholic, don’t fight it, feed it”.

And earlier this month, it was announced that fellow farming star Kaleb Cooper would be launching his own cider under the Hawkstone label. The cider is a collaboration with Guy Lawrence, whose cider mills have been in the Weston family for five generations, using locally-grown British apple varieties.

In any case, when it comes to the marketing of the products, it appears that Clarkson is happy to stoke a little controversy. Sharing what he said was hi latest attempt at a TV ad that was “irritatingly banned” to his social media, the presenter wrote, “Irritatingly, this ad has been banned because it turns out, you aren’t allowed to say that drinking lots of lager will make you drunk.”

The video shows Clarkson lying on a field of spring barely saying, “One-day little plant when you’re all big and grown-up, you’re going to be Hawkstone lager, and you’re going to make everyone p***ed”.

It’s probably fair to say that Clarkson’s irreverent approach to advertising is bearing fruit, as the video has already garnered close to one million views on Instagram.

One post from Clarkson promoting the Hawkstone cider reads, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away, imagine what a pint of our cider could do.”

Clarkson’s lager became an Amazon bestseller soon after its launch, reportedly overtaking well-known brands such as Corona and Budwesier on the platform.
