Banrock Station AR showcases environmental projects
Australian Wine company Accolade Wines has unveiled an Augmented Reality (AR) experience for Banrock Station to showcase the company’s environmental projects.
The Zappar WebAR technology app is activated by scanning the label of a bottle of Banrock Station with a smartphone to discover information about the range, and explore the company’s ecological projects.
The Banrock Station Environmental Trust was established in 1995 to reinvest profits from the sale of the wine into environmental projects around the world. Since then, it has contributed more than AU$6 million to around 130 projects in 13 countries, from protecting turtles in the Great Barrier Reef to supporting polar bear and orangutan rehabilitation. It is also protecting wildlife in the wetland habitat surrounding its 1,902-hectare vineyard estates.
The company’s ecological work has resulted in the area being designated as being of international significance. The app allows customers to view some of the environmental projects in detail via a 3D globe, as well as a vineyard interactive topographical map to see some of its native wetland creatures, including the vulnerable regent parrot, pelicans, spoonbills and kangaroos, along with videos of the local walking trails.
Consumers can also learn about carbon capture by planting and nurturing a virtual tree in echo of Banrock’s commitment to planting 100,000 native trees and shrubs every year.
Zoe Knight, global brand manager, Accolade Wines said the projects were an important part of the company’s DNA and AR was the perfect way to bring this to life for thousands of consumers.”
