First look at Zac Efron in role as man who went on The Greatest Beer Run Ever

Zac Efron’s latest movie role will see him take on the remarkable story of a man who travelled from New York City to Vietnam to deliver beer to those fighting in the Vietnam War.

According to the Daily Mail, the story goes that John ‘Chick’ Donohue was watching footage of anti-war protestors in an Irish bar one night when someone joked that someone from America should go to Vietnam and give the soldiers fighting there some beers, as well as messages from home/

But what began as a joke became a real-life mission for Donohue, a Marine Corps veteran, who embarked on a remarkable mission the very next day. He secured passage on a cargo ship bound for Vietnam, stocked up with a backpack full of beer. Arriving at Qui Nho’n, he set out to find his friends in enemy territory.

Here is a first look at Zac Efron in character as John ‘Chick’ Donohue:

The movie, which will be released on Apple TV, is based on Donohue’s memoir: The Greatest Beer Run Ever: A Memoir of Friendship, Loyalty, and War, which was published in September last year.

Alongside Efron, the star-studded cast includes Russel Crowe and Bill Murray in as-yet unspecified roles.

The Greatest Beer Run Ever is set for release in Spring this year.

Meanwhile, fellow Hollywood megastar Leonardo DiCaprio has acquired a stake in Champagne Telmont. You can read more on that here.
