Yes, that is an actual sentence I have actually just written. And no, I didn’t make this story up on the spot ‘for a laugh’.

Elizabeth Banks, of The Hunger Games fame, has apologised for and retracted her canned wine brand Archer Roose’s offer of a live snake mailed to every consumer who purchased 100,000 cases of the brand’s wine.

“You win some, you lose some,” Elizabeth Banks, Chief Creative Officer of Archer Roose, said in a statement. “Not everyone can appreciate truly great business ideas.”

“At our core, we’re a risk-taking company,” commented Marian Leitner-Waldman, Co-Founder & CEO of Archer Roose. “And I think offering free snakes to perfect strangers has taught us some very valuable lessons. Needless to say, we are very excited about the new reptile-free Archer Roose Rewards program.”

Banks captioned a video statement on her Instagram page, “We are announcing, with heavy hearts, that we are shutting down the @archerroosewines Snake Rewards program. We appreciate your understanding as we navigate these legally murky times. In its place we are offering a new and improved rewards program with the link in my bio. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

So no, you won’t get a live snake in the mail if you order 100,000 cases of canned wine from Archer Roose, but the brand has released a new rewards programme, namely Roose Rewards.

“The Roose Rewards program is a complimentary rewards plan, in which customers can accrue points, bonuses, and unlock other exclusive member perks by reaching Enthusiast, Insider or Adventurer status,” per a press release.

Rewards include cashback, early access offers and exclusive merch. But no snakes. We think.
