5% ABV ‘hard’ Mountain Dew released by Boston Beer Company and PepsiCo

After much fanfare and an announcement that dates back to last summer, boozy Mountain Dew is finally here. Boston Beer Company and PepsiCo partnered on the launch of the 5% ABV canned seltzer, which is available in select retailers now.

The canned beverages contain 100 calories, clock in at 5% ABV and come in flavours including  including Baja Blast, watermelon and black cherry and original. HARD MTN DEW will be sold in 24-ounce cans as a single serve, and in a variety pack which features a dozen 12-ounce cans.

“Originally intended to be a mixer for alcoholic spirits when MTN DEW was created more than 80 years ago, the brand is returning to its roots in one of the first alcoholic versions of a major soft drink,” Boston Beer Company said in a press release.

The expression will be “marketed to adults of legal age and merchandized consistently with other alcohol beverages,” CNN notes.

As of Tuesday, HARD MTN DEW was launched in Tennessee, Florida and Iowa. Federal law has presented a nationwide release, as Boston Beer and Pepsi have created a new entity to distribute the alcoholic beverage, Blue Cloud Distribution Inc, which is working to attain alcohol distribution permits in each state.

In a follow-up tweet, Mountain Dew has hinted that they may launch a locator tool so that consumers can find their nearest store that is selling the boozy expression.
