Woman sentenced after furiously smashing £10,000 of booze in Aldi
Video footage shows the moment a woman smashes some £10,000 worth of booze in her local Aldi supermarket, before directing racist abuse at a security guard. You can see the incident captured on video here.
Barbara Stange-Alvarez of Stevenage swept hundreds of bottles of alcohol onto the floor of an Aldi supermarket, leaving the floor dangerously slippery and covered in broken glass.
Indeed, its reported that Stange-Alvarez herself slipped and cut her hand during the incident.
Clinton Hadgill, prosecuting, said, “[she] made her way directly to the aisle where the alcohol is and proceeded to drag hundreds of bottles of alcohol off the shelf.”

She is said to have eventually been detained and taken to hospital, though not before allegedly directing racist abuse at a security guard.
“You Indian people. I pay my taxes for you to be in this country. Go back to your own country, I hate Indians.” She is reported to have said.
Ms Stange-Alvarez told the court that a number of things, including unemployment, had affected her in 2020, but that she was now on medication and she would not repeat her actions.
District Judge Dodd, noting that she had no previous convictions and had plead guilty, handed Ms Stange-Alvarez a 12-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months.
The judge ordered her to pay £5,000 to Aldi in compensation.
