Guala Closures receives top sustainability and carbon accreditation

Guala Closures Group has received a top sustainability accolade at its Spinetta Marengo plant in Italy for its ecolocially-savvy packaging.

The International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) Plus accreditation, issued by testing, inspection and certification service Bureau Veritas, has verified Guala Closures are producing circular packaging and bio-circular packaging closures, which are certified as sustainable thanks to control of the entire supply chain, from raw materials to final products.

ISCC Plus certification, which enables companies to monitor and demonstrate the quality of their products by checking the sustainability and traceability requirements along the entire production chain, has been instrumental in helping to pave the way for the group’s growing number of eco-initiatives.

Franco Bove, COO of Guala Closures Group said: “We are happy that our historic headquarters is the first plant within the group to obtain ISCC Plus certification. It is an important signal and a quality standard that we intend to replicate in the other Guala Closures plants around the world.”

Bove added: “The group has been focusing on this project for some time and it represents another major step in the development strategy implemented by the company. Currently the group is working on its 2022-2030 sustainability programme, to be presented next year. This will ensure Guala Closures will continue its commitment to people, communities and the territories in which it operates, because it strongly believes these are the basis of its continued progress.”

For over 10 years Guala Closures has promoted sustainable development and, since 2020, the group has offered a line of sustainable closures, Blossom Sustainable Closures, designed to reduce environmental impact.

Additionally, the group has revealed new partnerships and initiatives that are helping it to realise its ecological goals. For instance, its recent deal with Oceanworks has enabled the group to produce closures made with recycled plastic from coastal ecosystems.
