Battle of the snow globe gins
Three of the UK’s biggest retailers go head-to-head as Morrisons and Aldi bring out their own light-up snow globe gin liqueurs to rival M&S’s best seller.
Last year, Christmas shoppers went berserk for Marks & Spencer’s snow globe gin liqueur, with mitten-clad consumers snapping up one globe every three seconds.
It was by far the most talked-about item on UK drinks trollies during the festive period, so it’s no surprise that M&S has released a new pair of globe gins for 2021; in Clementine and Spiced Sugar Plum flavours.
However, two more UK retailers have geared up for an epic festive battle, launching their own versions – and cheaper.
This week, budget supermarket Morrisons unveiled its own snow globe at £5 cheaper than the one at M&S.
Morrisons is offering its 70cl bottle of The Best Orange & Gingerbread Gin Liqueur with ‘delicately spiced flavours of ginger and cinnamon topped with orange notes’, for £15.
Just like the best-seller from M&S, the bottle also lights up when you press a button on the bottom.
At 20% ABV, the supermarket suggests consumers mix the gin liqueurs with tonic, or use them to make cocktails like a Gin Fizz or Negroni.
Not to be left out in the cold, discount retailer Aldi has also jumped on the Santa wagon, launching its own version – a glitter snow globe gin in two flavours, Clementine and Sweet Blackberry. And it’s cheaper still than Morrisons’ version, at £13.99 (£6 less than M&S).
Part of Aldi’s new festive range, the bottle also lights up, and is also infused with flecks of edible 23-carat gold leaf.
Marks & Spencer refuses to go down without a fight, bringing out the big guns to reveal a giant magnum of its snow globe ‘blood orange’ gin liqueur last week, which contains 1.5 litres of the spirit and comes adorned with images from festive favourite The Nutcracker.
Priced at £40, the supersized version is set to make a statement in any home. Oh – and it plays a jolly Christmas tune when it illuminates.
Which retailer will see the highest number of sales for their snow globe gin liqueurs over Christmas? Only 44 days to go…
