Buy this colour-changing Tequila and save butterflies

The Butterfly Cannon Tequila, which offers a colour-changing expression as part of its range, has been launched to support butterfly conservation while tapping into the mixability trend.

The super premium 100% agave Tequila is 40%-ABV, is available in three expressions: Rosa, Silver Cristalino and Blue and has been created by the team at Biggar and Leith, owned by Mark Teasdale and founder of Malfy Gin Elwyn Gladstone.

The Rosa is made by infusing Mexican pink grapefruit peel in silver Tequila; the Blue expression is infused with prickly pear and clementine and has a natural blue colour which changes colour when a mixer such as tonic or lime is added; the Silver Cristalino is a clear Tequila aged for up to 30 days in barrels before being charcoal filtered.

The Butterfly Cannon Tequila, which  takes its name from the migration of butterflies from the US to Mexico, has been produced in Mexican distillery Destiladora del Valle de Tequila and has been specially-designed to be mixed.

Elwyn Gladstone said: “We created The Butterfly Cannon Tequila to make you rethink the Tequila category, making it an approachable Tequila designed for mixability.”

Gladstone added: “We have plans to help preserve the natural wonder of the butterfly migration and rather than creating another celebrity brand, we wanted to produce an authentic Tequila. We will be making contributions to special projects that aim to preserve the natural habitat of butterflies in Mexico, for generations to come.”

Each 50cl bottle will retail at £33 and will be available in the UK, US, France and Holland this month before rolling out across the rest of Europe.
