Aldi does love jumping on the Christmas bandwagon nice and early, and this is year is no exception. The discount retailer has announced the return of its wine and cheese advent calendars to help punters ring in the festive season in style.

Doubtless, Aldi will soon be regaling us all with news of gingerbread liqueurs, candy cane gins and snow globe cocktails mixers (I want a cut of the proceeds if they pick up that last one). But in the meantime, the discounter has revealed that it is bringing back two of its most popular Christmas items: its wine and cheese advent calendars.

Clever, really, since wine and cheese famously pair so well. Why not buy both? Aldi coquettishly asks us.

Why not indeed.

“Two of the most popular calendars are returning, including the 2021 Collection Wine Advent calendar and Emporium Selection Advent Cheese calendar. Once again, Aldi shoppers can count down to the holidays by pairing the wine and cheese Advent calendars full of Aldi-exclusive varieties.”  An Aldi spokesperson told TODAY in an email.

And Aldi USA announced the news with much fanfare on Instagram.

“We’re kicking off advent calendar season by announcing the return of two tasty classics, wine and cheese, in stores 11/3! 🍷🧀 Click the link in bio! When more calendars are announced, that’s where you’ll find them! And believe us, there will be plenty more coming 11/3.”

Previous iterations of the calendar have included 24 6-ounce bottles of wine, with varieties including red, white, fizz and rosé, and so consumers should expect a similar selection this year, though with the added bonus of a US$10 price drop, with a new cost of $59.99.

And fans of the calendars were thrilled by their return.

“HINT: If you buy the wine calendar, buy TWO cheese ones because they’re so delicious and there’s just never enough cheese,” one enamoured commenter wrote.

“I loved the cheese calendar last year. I’m setting a reminder on my calendar now,” another added.

Meanwhile, Costco has also announced the return of its beloved wine advent calendar. You can learn more about what you’ll find inside here.
