Marlborough producer launches limited edition wines with esteemed NZ artist
Marlborough wine producer Lawson’s Dry Hills has teamed up with highly respected New Zealand artist Max Gimblett to release a limited edition, single-vineyard Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The limited production Art Series comprises just 300, hand-numbered bottles of each wine, which the winery says offers an intense expression of exceptional Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
The single vineyard wines come from grapes grown in the Waihopai and Wairau Valley vineyards.
The labels on the bottles have been designed by contemporary painter and calligrapher, Max Gimblett, employing bold colour, powerful brushwork, balance and depth which the company said suggest “the power and complexities of both the art and the wine”.
Gimblett said the fine wines “lift us up into ecstasy and speak to us of the heights. We are so proud of them and of being members of their family.”
Although he is now based in New York, Gimblett has a high profile in his native New Zealand, and his work is owned by collections of all major public institutions and he exhibits regularly in both locations. He became an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for his services to Art in 2015 and in 2017, he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from The University of Waikato for his contribution as an artist, scholar, teacher and philanthropist.
The wines were launched at an exclusive event at the Gow Langsford Gallery in Auckland.
